On 29th October 2026, BACCIMA also visited the Comptroller of Customs at the Seme Border Command, Comptroller Abdullahi Kaila. The delegation was introduced by Mr. Abiola Hamid, Director of Programmes.
The President, Mr. Ashamu Sewanu Fadipe, asked two questions. Can Customs allocate land for a cross border market at Seme? And which items can traders carry for export, and which can they not?

The Comptroller said the Nigeria Customs Service is working on the trade passage, and that more trade means more revenue for government. He added that ECOWAS, in partnership with TradeMark Africa, is planning a mini market at Seme Border.
On items, he explained that permitted goods fall under legitimate trade, while prohibited goods fall under illegitimate trade. He will send the Customs PRO to obtain the list of tradeable items and forward it to the President.
On land, he said Customs has none to give for a market. Anyone interested in building a market at Seme should write to ECOWAS to express that interest.

The President also stated that cross border traders have the right to export goods worth $5,000 USD, and the Comptroller agreed.
