In a strategic move to promote regional trade, address non-tariff barriers, and strengthen cross-border economic ties, the Badagry Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (BACCIMA) actively participated in a high-level stakeholders’ meeting at the Seme Area Command on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
The joint engagement was organized by the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) South-West Regional Office in collaboration with the Lagos State Committee on Export Promotion (SCEP). The BACCIMA delegation—comprising the Director General, two Executive Council Members, and the Administrative Officer—joined national leaders from the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) to represent the organized private sector.
The session brought together business leaders, government dignitaries, and border enforcement authorities to address critical factors impacting non-oil export growth along the West African corridor.
- Strengthening Customs Collaboration: Discussions with the Customs Area Controller, Seme Area Command ably represented by the DC, centered on streamlining clearance processes, eliminating bureaucratic delays, and facilitating seamless formal export trade across the border.
- Unlocking AfCFTA & SME Opportunities: The engagement provided insights into the operationalization of the One-Stop Border Post (OSBP) model at Seme and highlighted trade mechanisms targeted at empowering youth and women entrepreneurs under the African Continental Free Trade Area framework.
- Industrial Policy & Inclusive Trade: Presentations delivered during the meeting focused on the Lagos State Industrial Policy and the NEPC-NACCIMA Inclusive Trade Formalization Project, emphasizing the shift toward value-addition for local commodities.
- Facility Tour: The meeting concluded with an extensive guided tour of the Seme border facilities, offering delegates a first-hand look at border logistics, joint inspection operations, and trade clearance infrastructure.
BACCIMA’s participation underscores its ongoing commitment to advocating for local businesses, expanding export pathways, and fostering sustainable economic growth within the Badagry corridor and beyond. By collaborating with NACCIMA, NEPC, and the Nigeria Customs Service, the Chamber continues to ensure that the interests of regional exporters are represented at national and cross-border levels.
