Mrs. Cecilia Gaya -MON, the Director-General of the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), the foremost human capacity development institution in Nigeria, has restated that they are committed to developing human capacity for key stakeholders of the Chamber.

She stated this during the working visit of the BACCIMA Director-General, Mr. Emmanuel Essien, to ASCON to kick-start the training of BACCIMA members as contained in a Memorandum of Understanding between ASCON and BACCIMA in 2019 to help in the development of human capacity for the benefit of the host community – Badagry, Lagos State.

Mr. Essien highlighted some of the numerous interventions and programs of the Chamber geared toward changing the narrative of trade in the region.

He emphasis more on the NBJC and the SSICBT. Two projects designed to completely transform the Badagry region and prepare it to take advantage of the AfCFTA, the Ecowas Special Economic Zone, and the Lagos-Abidjan Trade Corridor.

The specific objective of SSICBT, in particular, is to facilitate small-scale cross-border trade flows between Benin and Nigeria through synergy in governance, institutional capacity building, improved border infrastructures, better data collection and monitoring in furtherance of ECOWAS Protocols (1975/1979/1999) relating to the free movement of persons, goods, and services.

The process for commencement of the training is ongoing.

On the trip is the BACCIMA Director-General Mr. Emmanuel Essien, the Director of Program Development, Engr. Senu Seton, Chief Agoloto of Badagry Kingdom and Mrs. Nicky Maxwell, the pioneer women leader of BACCIMA.
